Summer Holiday Workshops

(Wednesday 24th July- Sunday 1st September 2019)


Listed below are some exciting workshops that you can book your child onto in advance. We suggest your child wear old clothes for all activities. The workshops are suitable for ages 7+.

As well as the daily workshops the main studio is also open every day during these days from 10am to 5pm. Please do drop in to paint some pottery or design t-shirts, there's no need to book. 

We all know that sometimes despite our best intentions 'life' occasionally gets in the way. If you have booked a workshop and can no longer make it we can refund your booking if you let us know 14 days before the date of the workshop. If you have to cancel less than 14 days unfortunately we cannot offer a refund as we will have bought materials and arranged tutors.

Please note: We cannot accommodate parents in the classroom during the workshop. Free tea and coffee is available and there is seating in the adjacent room should you wish to stay.

Week 1: Perspectives In Art

Wednesday 24th - Friday 26th July

This three day week is all about different perspectives in art. You will be learning some clever techniques to create the illusion of depth and distance in your drawing and painting and looking at things from all different angles. You can book the whole week here with a £5 discount or book the individual day/s below.

Through the Keyhole Landscapes

Wednesday 24th July 10am-4pm

Enjoy this exciting workshop where we’ll be exploring magical landscapes unfolding on the other side of a keyhole. It will be a great opportunity to use your imagination and be inspired by magical lands from stories. You’ll be designing and constructing the scene using perspective techniques and painting your final piece with acrylics using blending and shading techniques we’ll teach you on the day.

Perspectives in Marvel

Friday 26th July 10am-4pm

Calling all of those Marvel fans! We have a day packed full of your favourite Marvel characters. In the morning you will be painting a canvas wall hanging of a Marvel character. Whether it’s The Hulk, Spiderman, Ironman or Thor, we will be showing you how to blend and shade their shape and features using acrylics. In the afternoon you will be creating a Marvel themed plate which you can use at home.

Art Under the Microscope

Thursday 25th July 10am-4pm

During the course of this workshop you’ll be studying how beautiful the every day world is around us when we look close enough. In the morning you’ll be creating a stunning abstract watercolour painting based on patterns made under a microscope. In the afternoon you’ll be creating a unique plate which highlights bees in a honeycomb when held up through a magnifying glass. Perfect to use for summer snacks.

Week 2: Clay Mania

Monday 29th July - Friday 2nd August

This week is all about learning everything there is to know about clay and ceramics. Learn how to design and make your diverse clay sculptures, how to use glazes, how the kiln works and much more. You will also have the opportunity to throw a pot on the wheel every day. You can book the whole week here or individual day/s (below). Please note that clay items will need to be fired. This will take two weeks, unless specified otherwise, and items can then be painted at home using acrylics if desired or painted with glazes in the studio and fired again (for an additional £5 per item).

Under the Sea Clay Day

Monday 29th July 10am-4pm

Enjoy learning new clay and ceramic techniques during the course of this all day workshop. In the morning you will be making a jellyfish mobile out of clay which can be hung from the wall or ceiling. In the afternoon you will be designing a ‘chip and dip’ plate featuring a sea creature of your choice and using a ‘bubble’ technique for the background. During the day you will also have the chance to throw a pot or bowl on the pottery wheel.

Harry Potter Inspired Clay Day

Tuesday 30th July 10am-4pm

During this magical workshop you’ll be creating two amazing Harry Potter inspired projects as well as learning how to throw a pot or bowl on the pottery wheel. In the morning you’ll sculpt a clay patterned envelope with a message of your choice. In the afternoon you’ll be creating your very own ‘chips and dips’ plate with a Hogwarts theme, like the snitch plate pictured. To do this you’ll be using silkscreens and specialist ceramic techniques. During the day you will throw a pot on the wheel.

Woodland Animals in Clay

Wednesday 31st July 10am-4pm

During this workshop we’ll be celebrating woodland animals and their habitats. In the morning you will be creating a clay piece based on your own design of an animal in its woodland home. In the afternoon you will be painting a ceramic figurine as well as throwing a pot on the clay wheel.

Tropical Clay Day

Friday 2nd August 10am-4pm

Enjoy exploring the tropics through art in this colourful and creative workshop. You will be designing and making a jungle themed clay piece in the morning which can be used as a phone or book holder. In the afternoon enjoy making a tropical themed plate using masking techniques. During the day you will throw a pot on the wheel.

Sea Creatures in Clay

Thursday 1st August 10am-4pm

Enjoy an adventurous day of clay exploring the deep seas. In the morning you’ll be creating a snack platter out of clay based on your favourite underwater animal or fish. In the afternoon you’ll be making a mug using glazes and a bubble technique. During the course of the day everyone will have a chance to throw a clay pot or bowl on the wheel.

Week 3: Out of This World Week

Monday 5th August - Friday 9th August

This week is all about exploring the boundaries of your imagination. You'll be exploring diverse landscapes from Hogwarts to Wonderland and capturing strange and mythical creatures. You can book the whole week here with a £5 discount or book the individual day/s below.

Harry Potter Patronus Canvas

Monday 5th August 10am-4pm

Enjoy designing your own patronus and portraying them on a canvas using acrylics. Once you have decided what animal your patronus will be we will help you create a striking portrait using sponging, blending and brush techniques. In the afternoon you’ll be making a flying key project.

Exploring Space in Art

Tuesday 6th August 10am-4pm

During this out-of-this-world day of art and creativity you’ll be designing and painting a space scene using contrasting paint colours and using perspective techniques. You’ll also design your own t-shirt which you will be able to take home that day and wear all summer long.

Wednesday 7th August 10am-4pm

A really exciting workshop where we’ll be celebrating mythical creatures in art. During the course of the day, you’ll create a piece of wall art featuring a mythical creature of your choice (perhaps a unicorn, a dragon, a mermaid or a werewolf). In the afternoon you’ll paint a ceramic mythical animal creature.

Friday 9th August 10am-4pm

Enjoy learning new ceramic and clay techniques during the course of this magical day. In the morning you will be painting a wonderful cheshire cat plate using specialist ceramic tools to create patterns. This day is all about using all of your imagination to create amazing ink portraits. In the morning you will be using out of this world colours and effects to express yourself on a large canvas. Week 4: Mixed Media Week

Ice Cream in Acrylics and Clay

Monday 12th August 10am-4pm

Enjoy this yummy day of art. During this workshop you will create a striking ice cream canvas painting using blending and shading techniques. You will also be creating a clay ice cream sculpture, learning new techniques and adding on patterns using special tools.

Seaside String Art

Tuesday 13th August 10am-4pm

String Art is currently huge in the US and is set to make waves over here too. During this workshop you can enjoy learning this unusual technique whilst making a fantastic seahorse canvas. There will be plenty of shells for you to use to add to the seaside effect. In the afternoon you’ll be designing your own seashore themed plate, using a variety of ceramic painting techniques.

Week 5: Illustration Week

Monday 19th August - Friday 23rd August

This is a truly lovely week where you’ll be immersed into the styles of different illustrators including Tony Ross, Eric Carle and Dr Seuss. As well as emulating their styles we will be encouraging you to start thinking about your own style too. During the week you’ll be experimenting with different artistic mediums including watercolours, acrylics and clay. Celebrating Dr Seuss

Making Clay Models and Sets

Friday 23rd August 10am-4pm

During this workshop you will be making your own character out of clay based on your own character designs as well as creating a backdrop for them using wood and acrylics. Taking inspiration from the amazing illustrators around the world you will be working hard to make your character’s personality come to life through different mediums. You will be able to take your piece home at the end of the day as we will be using air dry clay.

Colourful Sgraffito Day

Tuesday 27th August 10am-4pm

Sgraffito is an ancient and effective ceramic technique. Spend the day creating beautiful pieces using this new skill including a clay piece designed by you in the morning and a large ceramic plate in the afternoon. This scratching effect always gives fantastic detailed results, and is very satisfying to do. You will have a lot of freedom, choosing your own designs and colours during the course of the day.
