Summer Holiday Workshops Wednesday 25th July - Friday 31st August

Listed below are some exciting workshops that you can book your child onto in advance. We suggest your child wear old clothes for all activities. The workshops are suitable for ages 7+.

As well as the daily workshops the main studio is also open every day during these days from 10am to 5pm. Please do drop in to paint some pottery or design t-shirts, there's no need to book. 

Please note: We cannot accommodate parents in the classroom during the workshop. Free tea and coffee is available and there is seating in the adjacent room. 

 

Week 1: Experimenting with Art

Wednesday 25th July - Friday 27th July

This three day week is all about pushing the boundaries of art. You'll be experimenting with different artistic mediums, creating amazing effects and even mixing art with technology and electronics. You can book this three day week here or book the individual day/s below.

Creating Magic with Ceramics Day

Wednesday 25th July 10am-4pm

Enjoy making making this wonderful plate, bowl and mug set using diverse ceramic techniques (including sgraffito, wax-resist and bubbles). On the day you will be able to choose your own colours and designs.

Crazy Art Day

Friday 27th July 10am-4pm

This day is all about letting those creative juices flow and the imagination run wild. In the morning you'll be designing this crazy clock before painting it in your own choice of colours and patterns and in the afternoon we have a weird and wonderful watercolour project for you.

Electronics in Art Day

Thursday 26th July 10am-4pm

In the morning merge electronics with painting and design to create this beautiful watercolour portrait of fire-flies which light up when the button is pressed and in the afternoon we'll have some fun with wax resist, salt and watercolours.

Week Two: Into The Tropics 

Week 2: Into the Tropics

Monday 30th July - Friday 3rd August 

Pop your sunglasses on and get ready for a scorcher. This week is all about celebrating everything hot, tropical and summery. We'll be working with clay, printing on textiles, sewing, painting ceramics, mosaic-making and much more...You can book the whole week here, or pick individual day/s below (warm weather not 100% guaranteed).

Sunbathing Panda Day

Monday 30th July 10am-4pm

Enjoy creating this fun project, using clay and lots of imagination. You will create your own character relaxing on a tropical beach, learning lots about hand-building and sculpture in the process. In the afternoon you will make your own decorative flat piece to hang on your wall at home. These pieces will be fired and ready to paint in two weeks. You can paint them at home with acrylics or in the studio with glazes for an additional £5 per item.

Design your own beach towel

Tuesday 31st July 10am-4pm

Spend the day designing your own beach towel, to show off at home or on holiday. Design a pattern, learn how to appliqué and use a sewing machine to create something very unique to you.

Tropical Sunsets Day

Wednesday 1st August 10am-4pm

This workshop is a masterclass in blending and perspective. After designing your piece, you'll practice how to blend using acrylics before applying the skill to a ceramic plate using the colourful studio glazes.

Ice Cream Mosaic Day

Friday 3rd August 10am-4pm

This day is all about celebrating summer through mosaics. Enjoy learning all about this exciting art form before having a go yourself. You'll spend time practicing your own design on a tile before creating your ice cream design. You can choose your own choice of toppings, and use glass and special glass-nippers to turn your designs into beautiful mosaics to take home.

Design your own flip flops and t-shirt

Thursday 2nd August 10am-4pm

By the time you leave this workshop you'll have new personalised pieces to wear all summer. Spend the morning thinking up a design on paper before watching your design transferred onto a t-shirt. In the afternoon design some flip flops to match!

Week 3: Clay Mania

Monday 6th - Friday 10th August

This week is all about learning everything there is to know about clay and ceramics. Learn how to design and make your diverse clay sculptures, how to use glazes, how the kiln works and much more. You will also have the opportunity to throw a pot or two on the wheel every day. You can book the whole week here or individual day/s (below). Please note that clay items will need to be fired. This will take two weeks, unless specified otherwise, and items can then be painted at home using acrylics if desired or painted in the studio and fired again (for an additional £5 per item).

Coral Reef Clay Day

Monday 6th August 10am-4pm

During this hand building project you'll learn how to roll, shape, print, coil, and cut clay to create this beautiful, tropical coral reef.  You'll also be painting a fish to swim amongst the coral.  During the day you will throw a pot on the wheel. Your reef and pot will be fired and ready in two weeks. Once fired you can paint your pieces with acrylics at home or with glazes in the studio (for an additional £5 per item.)

A Day of Clay Coiling

Tuesday 7th August 10am-4pm

Enjoy making glorious clay coils using our clay extruder and turn them into  a cute tortoise bowl or under the sea dish. Using underglazes you will colour your pieces before they are fired. You will also have the opportunity to throw a pot on the wheel. The items will be ready to collect in two weeks time.

Sgraffito Day

Wednesday 8th August 10am-4pm

Sgraffito is an ancient and effective ceramic technique. Spend the day creating beautiful ceramic pieces using this new skill. This scratching effect always gives fantastic detailed results, and is always fun to do. You'll also learn to throw a pot on the clay wheel.

Monster Clay Day

Friday 10th August 10am-4pm

Monster Clay Day is all about making weird and wonderful creatures out of clay. You'll be learning lots of skills, including how to make 3D containers and how to  glue pieces of clay to each other using slip. Design work will be important for these projects so make sure to bring your imagination! At one point during the day you will also be learning how to throw on the wheel. Once fired, pieces can be painted at home with acrylics or painted with glazes in the studio for an additional £5.

Make Your Own Photo Frame Day

Thursday 9th August 10am-4pm

Learn how to make a colourful photo frame out of clay. As well as creating an under the sea background, you can design and create your own under-the-water creature (such as a mermaid, merman, octopus or kraken!). In the afternoon you will have an opportunity to make a pot on the clay wheel. Items will be fired and ready to collect in two weeks, they can either be painted at home with acrylics or painted in the studio for £5 per item.

Week 4: Where the Wild Things Are

Insects in Art Day

Monday 13th August 10am-4pm

During the course of the day you'll be learning all about insects and how to bring these critters to life in art. In the morning enjoy creating a colourful coaster out of glass (pictured) using frit, stringers and pre cut glass. In the afternoon you will be drawing and painting an insect of your choice onto a canvas- great for learning details and shading.

Dinosaurs in Art Day

Tuesday 14th August 10am-4pm

Enjoy working on projects inspired by dinosaurs. In the morning you will be making a dinosaur and dinosaur egg out of clay, using the ‘pinch’ technique. In the afternoon you will design and paint a dinosaur mug.

Pirates in Art Day

Wednesday 15th August 10am-4pm

Enjoy unleashing your inner pirate at the same time as learning lots of new artistic skills. You'll be creating a treasure chest out of clay, perfect for keeping your trinkets in at home. You'll also be making your own treasure map out of clay, which you will glaze with your own choice of colours on the day.

Birds are fun creatures to paint and draw and feature heavily in many paintings. Learn how to draw colourful English and tropical birds and paint one of your designs onto a black canvas using acrylic paints.

Native American Day

This exciting day celebrates Peru and in particular its furry inhabitants. You'll be designing, drawing and painting your own llama plate, learning how to add character and personality to your piece. Aboriginal Art Day

Wednesday 29th August 10am-4pm

On this day we're heading down under and getting dotty with this Aboriginal art class. During this workshop you will learn about the history behind beautiful Aboriginal pieces and create your own design onto a plate. You'll also learn how to paint a ceramic gecko or frog using Aboriginal painting techniques. These items will be fired and ready to collect the following week.

Enjoy exploring Indian art in this colourful and exciting day. You will be creating this large and very striking elephant mosaic, using glass and special glass-nippers to bring your designs to life. Animals of Africa Day

Thursday 30th August 10am-4pm

This exciting workshop is all about Africa's King of the Jungle, the lion. Using clay you will sculpt the lions's face, learning hand building techniques as you go, and making sure to leave holes to thread the lion's mane in once it's fired. You will also paint a ceramic animal in the afternoon. The pieces will take two weeks to be fired. If you would like to, you can paint the lion with acrylics at home (as pictured) or paint with glazes in the studio (for £5).

Cancellation policy

We all know that sometimes despite our best intentions 'life' occasionally gets in the way. If you have booked a workshop and can no longer make it we can refund your booking if you let us know 14 days before the date of the workshop.  If you have to cancel less than 14 days unfortunately we cannot offer a refund as we will have bought materials and arranged tutors.
